We’ve gone through and updated:

• all wordpress scripts to the latest version
• all coppermine scripts to the latest version (1.5.20)

Coppermine Upgrades

Actually, we like coppermine 1.4 but there are some known security issues with this version so the latest version is safer.  We don’t like always upgrading things every few days when a works fine and there are no significant changes or issues but they announced some security issues with older versions.  There were too many installations using older versions with known security issues which wasn’t good so we decided to upgrade this for everyone.

cpg1.5.20 Security release – upgrade mandatory!

The Coppermine development team is releasing a security update for
Coppermine in order to counter a recently discovered vulnerability. It
is important that all users who run version cpg1.5.18 or older update
to this latest version as soon as possible.

Why was cpg1.5.20 released?
The release covers several path disclosure vulnerabilities. If
unpatched, it’s possible to generate an error that will reveal the
full path of the script. A remote user can determine the full path to
the web root directory and other potentially sensitive information.
Furthermore, the release covers a recently discovered XSS
vulnerability that allows (if unpatched) a malevolent visitor to
include own script routines under certain conditions.

Cpmfetch

Since cpmfetch does’t work by default with 1.5, any old cpmfetch sinstallations have been modded and upgraded to work with 1.5.

What you may need to do (themes and mods):

• If you are using a mod for coppermine such as onlinestats for coppermine 1.4x, you will need to update it to work with the latest version
• If you are using a theme that is not compatible with 1.5 (onlya small number of the galleries that have been upgraded), you will need to use another theme or update the coding it the template.html file to work with 1.5.

Spring WordPress Theme Base #2

Spring is here! To celebrate, we are holding the 2012 Spring Base Design Contest. For this contest, you will create a spring-themed WordPress or Coppermine theme base for our themes directory at fanfusion.org/themes.  The content will be similar to the last contest that we had for valentine’s day, except that you can also create Coppermine themes in this contest and the theme will be spring. The rules will be kept short and simple again.

How to enter

1. To submit a theme, please leave a comment here that you will be entering.  When you are finished with the theme, please email it to us along with a psd of the editable regions and a list of fonts.  The theme can be for wordpress or coppermine.
2. Please leave a room for a 300×250 in the header and 728×90 above the fold.   [Example]
3. The theme will be for WordPress or Coppermine and must be easy to use and edit for different celebrities, and not based on widgets
4. Themes must be your own original designs, and by submitting the theme you agree to give us permission for unlimited use of the themes.  Once submitted, a theme cannot be removed.
5. There must be a graphical link to fanfusion.org in the header image somewhere, example, the following in this theme.  It is an example, please don’t copy and paste this exact image

6. The sidebar needs to be able to fit a banner that is 300 pixels wide (e.g., you can make it 350 pixels).
7. Please use <?php bloginfo(‘template_url’); ?> for the template path instead of a path such as wp-content/themes/fanfusionspringtheme, since we will be renaming the theme.

Winners:
There will be 2-4 winners for WordPress Themes and 1-2 for Coppermine Themes, possibly more if more high quality themes are submitted.  Each person will receive a 15 pound (about $25) iTunes gift card.  Your credit will remain permanently on the theme, and we can promote your design site.  If you want something else instead of an itunes gift card we can try to substitute it.  We will decide the winners as soon as we receive the entries, and you will know asap, there’s no specific end date of the contest, it will end on the last day of the month (March 31st).
