History of FanFusion.Org

FanFusion.Org originally started out on another domain name, orangesarecool.com, which some of you may remember.  I started this site one day while sitting on my bed, typing on my laptop, and chatting with some friends on AIM, in my room.  The website started out as just a page with one line of text.  A temporary layout was put up, and an orange are cool themed layout after that.  The site started out hosting just a few fansites on a dedicated server that were run by some friends.  Actually it started out with just one fansite at first.  But there was extra space on the server, so we offered free hosting with no ads required since there was a lot of space left, and the sites that we were already hosting was enough to pay off the server.

However, the server quickly filled up and more people applied for hosting so we had to set up more servers.  We started to use Google ads on the fansites as a way to pay off the server costs.  In 2009, we decided to get a new name for the hosting site, because “orangesarecool” was long to type and it doesn’t relate to celebrities or fansites.  We asked all of our hostees to help us choose the name, and finally we decided to go with fanfusion.org, since it was short and memorable.  Literally, I guess you can think of fan fusion as meaning bringing fans together, since it’s a fusion of fans :)  FanFusion.org grew over the years, and today it has grown to host over 1500+ fansites.

I think of this site as a personal site, since it’s something that I run for fun as a hobby.  Today, it is run with the help of some cowebs, and some friends in real life that help out sometimes.  I don’t run it like a business or like it’s my job in any way, any time that I spend on it, is voluntary.  No net profit is made from the hosting of the fansites (in fact, the opposite, usually there is negative profit because I spend personal money to keep the network running since there’s a lot of costs, related to servers, and buying and renewing domains.  Google ads don’t get that much (not nearly as much as anyone might think), and dedicated server costs can be quite expensive and is the biggest cost, sometimes the Google ads don’t cover all the server and domain costs.  The revenue is spent on maintenance costs and goes back into the network for buying domains, etc.  Some people ask whether it takes a lot of time to run a network like this.  The answer is yes, it’s very time consuming to run a network like this.  I have spent over 10,000 on fansites in my life, sometimes over 10+ hours a day, but I love celebrities and have been obsessed with them my whole life so it’s fun for me.  Which brings me to the next paragraph, a little bit more about myself :)

About me :)

So, there are a few people who help to run fanfusion.org.  But the person writing this page now is me, so I’ll write a bit more about myself.  I go by oranges or admin online.  I know I haven’t said much about myself so far and have been a bit secretive.  I usually don’t put too much personal info online because I don’t want to be stalked.  And some things don’t matter for hosting so I just prefer to be referred to as admin or oranges.  But if you must know, I have been obsessed with celebs since I was 12 years old.  My first female idol was probably Michelle Trachtenberg (from Harriet the Spy, which was my favorite movie in middle school).  My favorite male celeb was Jim Carrey.  I would collect newspaper and other clippings of celebs and put them in a sticker book.  This was from way back in middle school.  I liked Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Backstreet Boys (yes I liked pop music), 98 degrees, bought their cds and had posters of them up in my room.  I used to love leonardo dicaprio and would buy signed photos and posters of him and put them up in my room.  After a few years, I started collecting autographs.  I have about 100 of them.  I used to get a ton of envelopes and stamp, print out photos from the internet and write letters to celebs,  and wait weeks, or months for a response and for them to sign the photos I sent them.  Although I never got the autographs of some celebs I really wanted to because they don’t respond to autographs, it was still fun to get them.  Over the years, I went to concerts, collected cds/dvds, bought movie collectibles from ebay (like media/press materials, movie film strips), tried to get some autographs in person, bought a ton of clippings, etc.  I got into fansites after that, and then after that, started hosting them.

I am a huge fan of TV series and movies, and probably have seen every popular  TV series around, and I usually watch movies every week when they come out (sometimes, even multiple in a week and on weekdays).  I grew up watching the disney channel (and before, nickelodeon, although i dont really watch nickelodeon anymore).

My favorite female celebs are probably ashley benson, nina dobrev, miranda kerr, scarlett johansson, (+ many others) and my favorite male celebs are taylor lautner, logan lerman, shia labeouf, james marsden, jim carrey, ryan reynolds, matt damon, and more (there are too many to list here).
